FJOA Call For Art
This call for art goes out to local artist to design, create and install art in the interior of the ‘Lovely Loo’
at the Jensen-Olson Arboretum (JOA) from the Friends of the Jensen-Olson Arboretum (FJOA), a non-profit
that supports the JOA.
The Jensen-Olson Arboretum is located at 23035 Glacier Highway in Juneau. The loo is near the driveway for
The loo is an outdoor restroom building made of solid chocolate brown concrete about 6x8’. There are 2 small
windows in the gable ends and a frosted door window. Motion sensor lights will also be installed. Choose one
wall or all for your project. Art must be able to withstand outdoor temperatures and chemicals for cleaning
and sanitizing the space. Art should relate to the location-Jensen-Olson Arboretum and brighten the interior.
Budget for project is $2000. Half to Artist when final proposal is agreed on (late July), the rest when project is
Proposals should include a drawing or photos of idea along with a written description. Previous art/past
project info and an artist bio are appreciated. A committee consisting of the JOA Manager, 2 members of the
Friends of the JOA and 2 local Art related persons will decide on the project.
A proposal for Art is required by July 15, 2021 at 5pm. Chosen Artist will be notified by July 30. Detailed plans
required by August 31 and installation completed before October 31, 2021.
Installation shall take place when the JOA is closed as it is the only toilet facility available for visitors. Current
hours are Wednesday to Sunday 9-5.
Art becomes the property of CBJ Jensen-Olson Arboretum.
